How do I prevent losing valid e-mail?

Here's the scoop:

Comcast cable Internet, Motorola modem, Linksys router
Dell Dimension 4100 running XP Pro
MS Office 2003 (recently installed)

I am having a problem retrieving e-mail from my ISP, i.e., legitimate
e-mails that I know are on the server are not in my Outlook Inbox, and when I
go back and look via a web based log-in, they are no longer on the server.

The problem is not with Comcast. If I use Thunderbird to retrieve e-mail,
they all come into the Inbox. I would prefer to use Outlook, but more than
that, I need the e-mail (both personal, and business).

So -- what is happening with Outlook that some e-mails are not being
retrieved, and are instead being deleted from the server?

Thanks in advance,

Disable ant-spam and anti-virus solutions (especially ones that integrate
with Outlook)

Try again.
