How do I prevent Excel from changing numbers into dates?

When I type in a number (5-10) for example, it either changes it to a date or
takes of the 0. I want it to show up the exact same way I type it. How can I
do that?

Or prefix your entry with an apostrophe:

'5-10

You must have formatted the cell in Date format.
Please follow following steps
1.Select the cell>Right click>Format cells
2.From the number tab, select number from the category list
3.Click OK
Now it should work

Have a nice time
