all I have found so far is protecting my PC from email content, about IRM and
about home computers. We are on a network here and I am trying to find a way
to do this without going through our central IT division, which could take a
month!

Any suggestions/solutions will be appreciated.

Usually on a network, opening Outlook is dependent upon your NT profile. No
profile, no Outlook account. When logging into a generic PC, meaning many
people use the same profile to log on or the PC automatically logs onto the
domain, then each Outlook profile should prompt for a password. If one
Outlook account is set up for multiple users, then you shouldn't password
protect it.
Can you be a little more specific about why you're trying to protect your
Outlook?

hi Kathleen,
the reason for wanting to protect it is that the PC has multiple uses for
multiple users but only one user should be using the email account. this has
been abused somewhat and rogue entries have been made on the calendar and
emails marked as read etc, before the authorised user has seen them. I get
the feeling that I'm asking the impossible though....

Hi Lucy

Logging onto the pc brings in the username and password from a server in a
domain / active directory.

If all users use the same username and password then there is little you can
do about it. As this login details authorises the pc and outlook.

If all users have different usernames and passwords and another user logs in
and accesses the email of the other user this would be a concern for me.

You can set outlook to prompt for a username and password when it starts in
the profile of outlook but as I said if all users have same username and
password they would know what to put in when it asks for a username and
password.

If all users are using same username and password then IT has to setup a
different outlook profile for this user with different login details for
outlook

Sorry.
