Password protected document - quick way to find the screen to unpr

We are just converting to Office 2007. Re are not using IRM, Most of our
word 2003 documents have been protected from editing using a password.

I can not find a straight forward way to unprotect these documents in 2007.
The review tab, protect button, does not give any options for "unprotect".
The only route I have found to unprotect is to click save as, and then choose
tools, general options, unprotect. It is very counterintuitive to use the
save as option in order to open a protected document for editing.

Is there another way to do this?

Side question. Is there a way to use IRM within a small organization
without having the expense of the IRM server and CALS?

On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Protect Document, and then
click Restrict Formatting and Editing.

In the Protect Document task pane, click Stop Protection.

When opening a document created in word 2003 which was password protected,
the Protect group does not give a "stop Protection" option. This is were I
went first and expected to see options for "stop protection".

Is there some global option that would place this option in the Protect Group?

Are these documents forms?
It works here! The stop protection button is at the bottom of the protection
task pane?

Interesting.
Even with a new office 2007 document, When I click the Protect Document
button in the Review tab, I get
Restrict Formating and Editing, Unristricted Access, restricted access, and
Manage Credentials as my only options.

What would cause the protect documetn options not to appear here. I don't
know if it is the case on every office 2007 installation in our office, but I
do know that at least two of us have this same issue. I will check with the
other installations.

Ok, I found it. Clicking the Protect Document button opens the task pane,
selecting the restrict formatting and editing option, opens the Restrict
Formating and editing task pane and at the bottom of this pane is the
Unprotect document button.

Thank you for your assistance. My relationship with the new user interface
is a love/hate relationship, depends on the moment you ask me.

That's correct - but you have not gone far enough - now click 'Restrict
formatting and editing' for the rest of the options. Check 'editing
restrictions - filling in forms'.
