I want to allow only registered users on my website view prices and use the
shopping cart. Any ideas how to set this up (using FrontPage 2002, doing it
all myself...)

I believe the comersus cart (www.comersus.com) has a feature like this where
they've got to be a registered user to view prices, and has "multiple price
levels".

You probably will not want to write a shopping cart on your own, if that's what you meant. There are several good low cost/no cost carts out there, depending on what script and db your server supports...find that out first.

Use a password protected subweb for the cart
See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825451
Your host will have to support subwebs and unique permissions under the FP Server Extensions
