How do I open .pps files? Powerpoint viewer only opens .ppt file

The current viewer will open either PPS or PPT files.

What version of the viewer do you have?

How exactly are you trying to open a PPT file?

What happens when you try it?

Don't know version. Downloaded the 97 version, changed the name and put it
in program files ( not office folder). Assigned .pps files to it and so far
it seems to be working. The version that came with my windows xp media center
2005 only worked on .ppt files. Thanks for your help.

Go to a .pps file in Windows Explorer. Right click the .pps file and choose
Open With from the menu. Select PowerPoint Viewer as the program to handle
this type file. Put a checkmark in the box before "always use this program
for this type file".
