How do I open my existing website to edit it?

Two years ago I built a website using Frontpage 2000. I was able to open this website and make changes to it by clicking "File" then "Recent Webs". Since then I got a new computer and installed Frontpage 2000 on it. Now, I am unable to open my website because its link is not available in the "Recent Webs" list. How do I open my website? In a book I have on Frontpage, it says that to open a server-based site on my local machine, I must have installed Microsoft Personal Web Server (PWS). Do I really need this? I have Windowx XP and was unable to find a downloadable version of PSW on the Microsoft website. What should I do? Thank you so much for your help.

Windows XP Home does not support a MS web server or extensions. You would
need to use diskbased webs rather than server based.

Windows XP Pro uses IIS 5.1 as the web server, which you'll need to install
via add/remove programs.

Where is your web site residing? If it is on a server, the
server has to have Front Page Server Extensions. If it is
sitting on your local computer, open it just like any
other file.

Are trying to open the site on your local machine or a remote server? If a remote server try using
http://www.yourweb.com

Without the extension on your local machine or PWS, just means that you can not test your web
locally using a web server.

I tried "http://yourweb.com" and it won't open because it says its password protected. Yes, it
is. How do I get to the place where I can give it my password?
Also, someone wrote: "Windows XP Home does not support a MS web server or extensions. You would
need to use diskbased webs rather than server based." Does this mean I can't access my website
using Frontpage on my new XP computer? (Yikes.)

Open Front Page. Go to File, Open Web. In the bottom space where it says
Folder Name (not the top Look In Space), type in http://www.whatever.org
(obviously what the url of your site is). Be sure to include the http://.
Click Open. You web site will now open and you can edit and/or publish back
to a folder on your hard drive to edit if you wish. Make the folder on your
HD first, though, if you are going to edit offline........Millie
