How do I open an xls file from an old floppy on windows xp?

How do I open an xls file from an old floppy on windows xp? I do not have
excel 2003 on my present computer.

This is an Access newsgroup, not an Excel newsgroup.

I would think though, that you could open Excel, click the Open icon, select
the floppy, change the drop-down box to select the fiel type and open the
file.

Microsoft's Help system has landed you in the wrong newsgroup: this
one is for the database program Microsoft Access.

Please use the dropdown box (the one that says "Access" by default)
to select a more appropriate newsgroup, such as
microsoft.public.excel.general.

Do you have *any* version of Excel? or perhaps Microsoft Works? They
may well be able to open the file.

Then, again, you'd think that "I do not have Excel" would preclude your offering
