how do i open a database in design view?

I would need to update some reports in a database that somebody else created.
It keeps opening up with a startup form and I am not able to open it in
design view even if I keep the SHIFT down while I'm opening the .mdb file.

I also get a security warning when I open the db. "This file may not be safe
if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer. Do you wan to
open this file?" Then I keep pushing the SHIFT and click on "open." A sturtup
login form appears. Then i click on login and pick manager and punck in the
password and the database opens with the Main Menu form.
The the parts i see on the menu bar are limited. i do not have View and
nothing that would let me modify anything (OK I can enter records and so on,
but I cannot reach the design of the DB)

Please help.

Any suggestion?

Is the file an ".mde" file? If yes, you cannot get to design view of forms,
etc.

Sounds as if the developer also "turned off" the option for the Shift key
while opening the database. If yes, there is code available on internet (do
a Google search) for how to turn that option back on.

Thanks for the suggestion. It is a .mdb though. But I have already found a
good posting about it under the security questions. Now I have 3 versions of
the SHIFT key switching tool. Hardly can wait to get back to work and try it.
:)
