how do I open a compressed (zipped) file?

I also don't know why or how these are even created! I would like to open and
view these files that are stored in this fashion under my documents.

First, this newsgroup is for the Access Database program. You're in the
wrong newsgroup.

If you OS has zip file support, Windows XP does, then just double click the
file. If it doesn't, then try a zipping program such as WinZip
(www.winzip.com). There is a good chance that the file was created if you
ran the disk cleanup wizard. I believe it may make zip archives of some
rarely used files.
