How do I make a horizontal line by typing three hyphens then enter

Hi I used to be able to make a horozontial line accros the page by typing
several hyphens then hitting enter but somehow I have turned this off and
cant seem to turn it on.
Thanks in advance for any replies

Had you mentioned what version Word I could give you mre explicit
instructions, but you need to get into the AutoCorrect Options - AutoFormat
As You Type & restore the check for Border Lines. Where you'll find it & the
exact wording varies depending on version of Word, but Help will point you
there.

Keep in mind that all the feature does is to automatically apply a Bottom
paragraph border which you also can do in several other ways.

Thankyou for your help you put me on the right track, sorry for not
mentioning the version it's Word 2002 and the solution for me was:
Format/Auto format/Options/Auto format as you type tab then put a check in
the box "Border Lines" Thank you again for your very prompt and helpful reply.
