inserting horizontal lines with three hyphens

Terry

Hi!

I am working with word 2007 and have an instruction page that supposedly
allows me to type three hyphens, enter, and get a full line across the page;
also
similarily, three ===, ___, ***, ###, and ~~~. I tried all of them, but
nothing happens. I was able to do this in word 2003. What can I do to
accomplish this? Thank you.

Hi Terry,

This works for me in Word 2007, but the option may have been disabled on
your computer. Click the Office Button, click Word Options, click
Proofreading, click Autocorrect Options, and then on the AutoFormat As You
Type tab make sure that the Border Lines check box is selected. You can type
three of the following characters and then press Enter to create a line: ~,
#, *, -, _, or =
