How do I make a field required before posting to the web?

I am making a form that is going to be published to the Web with MS Word 2000
and Frontpage 2000. How do I make a field on the form required before the
submit button is clicked?
 
Open the form in FP, right click on a field and set it's validation. The form must be publish via
FP's http mode to a web host that support the FP extensions and the sending of email.
