How do I know whether an existing document has been saved? I use both word
and WordPerfect. As I progress along in a document, I save as I go. In
WordPerfect, the program tells me via the file name that when I save it as a
go along, that the file is now un-modified. I can't seem to find the same
feature in Word. I click on the save button in Word but there does not
appear to be an indication that it has saved the work thus far. Is there
some indicator in Word that reflects that I have actually saved the document
as I work on it. Obviously the first time you save it you have to give it a
name. I'm talking about after that stage as I save again and again as I work
on the document.

As far as I know, Word doesn't have this feature. I guess I'm not sure why
this is needed since once you save something and the minute you do anything,
like inserting a space or period, your file is now "modified". If in doubt,
hit the save button.

Good luck.

And note that if the document *is* unmodified, you lose nothing by saving it
because Word won't save it unless it is "dirty."
