How do I kill BCMNTIO?

XP SR2
On startup, I get a Event Error
"The BCMNTIO service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified."
From investigation I believe this is associated with CheckIt
Diagnostics which I have already uninstalled. In addition, the file
BCMNTIO does not exist on my HD. Yet, every time I start up I get the
error.
FWIW, sometimes I get another Event Viewer error identifying MEMMAP.
AND MORE: Please see my nest post (DCOM error) for a (potentially)
related error.

bcmntio.sys belongs to the software CheckIt Diagnostics.

Smith Micro Software's CheckIt Diagnostics is part of Norton\Symantec
SystemWorks 200?.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Locate bcmntio and double click it | Set the Startup type to disabled

mapmem.sys also belongs to the software CheckIt Diagnostics.

See if you can find it in services.

Also ...
Open the Device Manager...
Start | Run | Type: devmgmt.msc | Click OK |
View menu | Select Show hidden devices |
Click the [+] next to Non-Plug and Play Drivers |
See if bcmntio and/or mapmem are listed |
Double click each one | General tab |
Disable under Device usage | Driver tab |
Set to Disabled under Startup

Maybe you can try Symantec support.

Thanks for the reply.
Tried services.msc. I get a popup - do I want to search the net or
search my hard drive?
Went to My Computer, Manage, Services. Nothing listed by file name,
just by description. How do I connect bcmntio to any particular service?

#$%#$% Norton!!!! Norton/Symantec leaves so much crap behind that you have
to use special tools just to remove their crappy software.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl

Maybe you can try Symantec support.

Support - Symantec Corp.

And AMEN! I have used Symantec sw for years but this is it. Moving to sw
from another company next time I get near the store.
I'll try the link this weekend.

Good luck and keep having fun!
