How do I kill Autoplay?

I have an external HDD connected to computer USB. When I turn it on,
the machine (WXP PRO SP2) goes through the same autoplay choices that
it does for CD disks. I can't seem to stop it.

Can someone tell me how to stop autoplay just for the external USB HDD
without affecting my internal CD/DVDs?

in Windows Explorer, right click drive, Properties, Autoplay tab, select an
action and set to None.

If you're using Windows XP:

1) Remove any autorun.inf that is at the top level of your drive. It
sounds as if there's no legitimate reason for one to be there, so dump
it if it is.

2) The next time you get the dialog that asks what to do with the disk,
select "nothing" or whatever sounds like that, and check the box that
indicates that it should always do nothing.

If, for some reason, that does not quiet the drive, find the XP version
of TweakUI -- it allows you to control autorun by drive letter.
