How do I keep word doc. fomatting consistant in Mac and PC?

I use a Macintosh at home and a PC at work and school. I need to be able to
create documents that keep a consistant format and page layout when I switch
between Mac and PC. I think it might have to do with the fonts being used.
Does anyone have any suggestions?!?
