How do I keep message headings in my in-box when I close the messa

When I close a received email, it disappears. I have learned from searching,
it is actually saved in the in-box folder, but (I swear) it is not visible on
the right side of the screen in the in-box folder.

You probably have your View set to "Unread messages". Fix your View from
the View menu.
