How do I keep inbox subfolders expanded after closing outlook?

Outlook 2003 on WXP Pro SP3. When I am using outlook I have several inbox
subfolders expanded. When I exit and re-open outlook they are all closed /
contracted again with only the Inbox showing. Is there a way to preserve the
view with the folders expanded.

No, there is no such option to control that. Depending on the mail account
type that you are using, the folder state is preserved.

Do you mean the default folder state is preserved or is the folder view you
created supposed to be preserved? Outlook connects to an MS Exchange Server.

The folder state itself is preserved so expanded folders upon closing of
Outlook are still expanded when starting Outlook again. I've just verified
that this also works with Outlook 2003 with Cached Mode enabled. There could
be various reasons for it not "sticking". Errors in your ost-file and
Outlook not closing correctly are the main causes I would inspect.

Check your ost-file for errors with scanost.exe.

Also see how Outlook behaves when starting in Safe Mode;
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe
