How do I keep from checking e-mail while offline?

I want to check my e-mail every 5-10 minutes while online, but then when I am
not connected to the internet, I don't want to check e-mail. Right now, it
is checking for new messages even when I am offline. Please help.

Hi, Bethany -

When you post in here, always include your version, SP level, and mode (if
applicable) of Outlook - you can find this information in Help | About. Also
include the type of mail account(s) you use and any other pertinent details.

Be sure to put a consise summary of your question in the subject line, and
the full details in the body of your post.

If you're using OL2003 (and probably OL2002) you can turn off offline
checking here: Tools menu > Send/Receive > Send/Receive Settings > Define
Send/Receive groups. Uncheck the option to check while offline. You can also
set Outlook to offline using the Work Offline command on the File menu
