I guess this depends on your definition of 'intertwine'.
There are two possibities that spring to mind
1 The EQ field. This can be used to superimpose one character over another
with control over the position of the overlap.
2. Select the two adjacent characters and use Font > Character Spacing >
Condensed and condense until the characters overlap. (Try a start figure of
12). Note that this will affect the relationship with the following
character so you will almost certainly have to add extra space to the next
character on the line.
Anything more adventurous and you'll need a graphics application.
