I downloaded the RC1 ISO, burned it to DVD. I am curently on XP. When I
select .iso from the explorer, I don't see any install shield. Any idea how I
can run the installation file?

thanks for the help!

Did you copy the ISO to the DVD. Or use a program like Nero to burn an image
of the ISO.

I did, I burned it to dvd. Can I install RC1 even if I am on XP and not on
BETA2?

If you can see a .iso file on the DVD you've copied it, rather than brning
te image,if you see a collection of files and folders just run setup

Hi,

What you did was to copy the .iso file to DVD, what you need to do is use a
burning program's capacity to burn a DVD from an image file - this is not
the same as copying the file to disk. An .iso file is a disk image, and the
disk needs to be created from the image file.

Just curious, but how experienced a PC user are you? I ask because unless
your -are- experienced, it is not a great idea to install a BETA OS on your
"production" PC. That would be the PC on which you rely to do your daily
tasks, day-in and day-out. And even the experienced users here will tell you
not to do it even if you intend to install it as dual boot with your XP
system. It's just not a good idea. You should only install Vista on a
dedicated PC that you don't care about crashing. Or buy an additional hard
drive and install it on that. But do not, I repeat, do NOT install Vista on
your "production" PC.

This worked like a magic, thanks for helping me out!!!

I got the O/S installed now, doesn't look as great as Mac Tiger. I have a
feeling MSFT folks have only been working on the skins but nothing else :)

Thanks for the help Rick!

Why are you asking me the question? I may not be a O/S or DVD burning guy but
I use computer for my bread and butter, I am not as stupid as you think to
install beta software that too from MSFT on my production computer!!!

Sorry if I offended you. I think my question was valid, though, and
ultimately I was attempting to help you from shooting yourself in the foot.
Take that as you will.

I guess it was my mistake, I mis-interpreted your email. Anycase, I
successfully installed it on my home PC which I primarily use only for
browsing. Thanks anyway for your help!

They've been working on a lot more than that. It's a huge undertaking, and
while there is much they need to work, didn't include, failed to get to,
and won't be finishing, there is plenty for you to explore that's worthwhile
and has nothing to do with skins or the UI.

Before you dismiss Vista as "skins" (do you have it confused with Paris
Hilton) if I were you I'd explore the features using www.pro-networks.org or
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsvista/default.mspx or some of the
hundreds of private Vista sites like www.longhornblogs.net

If you think Mac Tiger looks great, and a lot of people do, you should thank
MSFT for making IE 4 from which Steve Jobs freely stole.

When Dean Hachamovitch who runs IE bumped into Steve Jobs in an LA
restaurant with Rob Scooble

http://radio.weblogs.com/0001011/2005/08/19.html#a10906

and Jobs was quick to invoke that MSFT stole from him, (they both stole from
Xerox Park) Hachamovitch refrained from pointing out how much Jobs stole
from IE4.0

Also since you're on a dual boot, you will probably find it convenient to
access your XP desktop from your Vista desktop by making a shortcut at
C:\Documents and Settings\No Name's Profile\Desktop and then you can access
your XP files without having to move or copy them and save time and space on
your hard drive.
