How do I install an Outlook 2003 security template?

Guest

I'm running Exchange2003/Oultlook2003 and I need to modify the programmatic
settings in the global template.

Q1: Where do I find this security template if I do not already have an
Outlook Security Settings public folder in System Manager?

Q2: Is there a HowTo to install the template, and where to find it?

Thx.

Information was most helpful, although I do not have the regkey
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Security on any of my clients.
Is there something I'm overlooking in exchange configuration? I currently
use GFI for spam filtering, not exchange. Thx.

If you want to use the security settings folder to control the client behavior, then you must add that key to each client.

Ok -I picked up another forum search that had your response to this question,
most helpful again.

I've followed the instructions precisely, however I'm getting this response
when trying to save my configuration changes or publish the Outlook form:

"The access levels on this security setting cannot be saved, probably
because of an invalid password. This setting is currently set as a default
setting for all users. You should either delete the setting or save it
again, and type the correct password."

This is generated on the machine that has the ORK tools installed, and where
I'm trying to edit the security form. Full access/ownership permissions have
been configured for me individually, to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks.

Can you try using a different mail profile that doesn't use Cached Exchange mode? That's worked for me.

Have you created a default settings item yet?

Yes -I can open the form from the Outlook file menu, I just can't save any
changes. Yikes! I'm not in cached mode, and there is no prompt for password.

But did you try a new profile? And are you trying to create a default item or an item that applies to certain people?

Exchange 2003 SP1, Version: 6.5.7226.0
OK, I started clean from the beginning, tracing steps:
1. created public folder, set ACL to Owner for myself; Default as Reviewer
2. installed and registered successfully the Trusted Code Control on my
XPPro SP2 machine (also has ORK tools installed)
3. published default form per instructions

Question-should I see the published form in the Outlook Securioty Settins
public folder at this point? Is there a delay in populating the view in this
folder?

4. next I open the form from the New menu, and after I make any changes
(default group or new security group, I am unable to save or publish the new
form. An entry does appear in the public folder at this point, whether
successfully saved or not, is this correct?

I need a global setting to apply for accessing the address info via outlook
object model, am I missing a step?

Yes, you should see the published form on the folder's Actions menu. You should also make it the default form for the folder. You will see no entries in the folder, though, until you create them.

You still didn't say whether you tried a new mail profile that doesn't use Cached Exchange mode.

Thanks for response. I have not tried another profile yet -although all of
my clients are configured NOT to use cached mode.

I'll update you with results. Much appreciated!

Hi Sue -tried a different profile, same result. I was able to run
outlooksecurity.oft and make necessary changes, select close button, then
publish the form over the default. Using New>Choose Form>Outlook security
form changes are not saved, the same incorrect password error is generated.

I have also added the necessary reg key
HKCU>software>policies>Microsoft>Security (I had to add this key and the
DWORD entry for CheckAdmin Settings. The "Security" key did not exist.

Restarted Outlook a couple times, how do I know if the default security
template settings are being applied from the public folder? ANyway to
confirm? My application is still prompting to allow access for x minutes.
The administrative key for disallowing user changes is not present either.

Thanks for your time.

You lost me. What changes did you make? You should never change that form. And how did you publish it if it was closed?

You'd look in the public folder to see if anyone (e.g. you) had created such an item.

What value did you set for CheckAdminSettings?
