*How* Do I Import Groups from Outlook Contacts to Another Computer

G

Hello--

We have a user that changed computers and everything moved over fine except
the groups she created in her contacts don't show in her address list.

How can I configure Outlook for her contact groups to show up in her address
list?

Groups? Outlook doesn't have groups. Do you mean Distribution Lists?

Do any of her Contacts show up in the Address Book?

As a matter of fact, she can see her contacts if she selects the contacts in
the address drop down list--just not the groups.

Distribution Lists do not survive importing.
How do this user "move" her data?

Ah, OK. We moved the data by using our network shared drive. On Oulook, we
exported her entire Personal Folder to a .pst file, and then imported it back
into Outlook on the new computer.

For future reference, that is never the correct way to transfer Outlook
data. Use it only if you want to lose data.
Next time, just copy the PST file and open it in the other installation.

Russ--

I'm not sure about your oraganization, but here, we never want to
intentionally lose data--:p

Sounds like from your previous post that would not have made any differences
regarding this thread, right?

Thanks,

Sure it would.
DL's are among the data that is lost when you export a PST file.

Russ--

I still have the old PC with Outlook intact at my tech bench. Can you point
me to the best practice steps for getting the Outlook .pst over to the new
computer?

Thank you,

Sure.
Just open the old PST file in the new installation and copy whatever you
want from it.

You can also just reuse the old PST by configuring a new installation to use
it as its default PST. Details here:
