How do I get Windows Explorer to remember my View setting?

Hi, all. I'm new to XP so forgive my naivete.

How do I get Windows Explorer (and My Computer) to "remember" my
View setting?

As a long-time Win 98 user, I have come to prefer the Details
View setting in Explorer and My Computer.

But on my Daughter's new Dell computer with XP Home, Explorer
and My Computer keep reverting to Icon View!

Even when I change the View to Detail, as soon as I change
Folders, I'm back with Icons! I tried exiting Explorer by File-
Close instead of just clicking on the "X" on the upper right of
the screen, but that didn't help.

Worse,maybe, Explorer and My Computer "forget" what I've set my
Details column widths to every time I launch them, or even
change Folders! Of course, I have to take the time to widen the
File Name column and narrow up the others. MAJOR annoynance!
Ditto for the predeliction of Explorer to always revert to Icon
View.

Any hints for making my View settings "stick" would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Hi Jerry,

WindowsXP will remember the settings of up to 400 folders, after that it
starts forgetting some. See this from MVP Kelly for a way to increase this
number:

Line 2, increase the folder view size limit to 8000

You can also resolve this with the newest version of TweakUI. Get it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

After installing, look under explorer/customization, increase the "folders
to remember".

Thank you SO much for providing the link to the new Powertoys!

BTW, I did NOT see "send to any folder" in the list of
Powertoys. This was in the old Win 95/98 version of Powertoys,
and I miss it VERY much with Win XP. It used to be so handy to
be able to instantly send file(s) or folder(s) directly to
somewhere else on my system by simply specifying the new folder
name.

Is there anything akin to "send to any folder" built into XP?
What I've been doing is the "simple" copy-paste method, which is
tedious, particularly when copying a LOT of stuff from CD's to
my hard drive.

I haven't tried it of course, but will the Win 95/98 Powertoys
work on XP? Or (as I would expect), will they just trash XP?

Any help on "send to any folder" would be appreciated.

Hi Jerry,

Actually, the "send to any folder" was part of the Win95 toys, it didn't
work particularly well with Win98. No, there isn't one for WinXP either. I
usually just add commonly used folders to my right-click/send to menu by
putting shortcuts under:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\SendTo

After a little groping around, I did find the "send to any
folder" utility, but the file name indicated that it is Win 95.

Are you saying that an old Win 95 Powertoys untility will work
in Win XP? I would have thought that Microsoft Explorer was SO
different that adding a Win 95 Powertoy would simply trash it so
bad I'd need to reinstall Windows XP.

Please clarify. Thanks.
