I cannot get to single line spacing. Evening though single line is checked
under "line spacing" it is still coming out as 1.5 and also printing that
way. A letter does not look good like this. Can anyone help please>

Would this be Word 2007?

By default Word 2007 uses a 'normal' paragraph style, which (unlike earlier
versions) has 10 points of space after each paragraph and 1.15 line spacing.
The default template also offers a 'No spacing' style which has single
spacing and no space after. You could either apply a pre-configured style
that gives the appearance you want.
Or
You could modify any or all of the standard styles to suit your requirements
(in particular you could remove the spacing from the normal style - and
change the name of the 'No spacing' style to 'Spaced' style and add to it
the spacing you have removed from the normal style so that when you create
labels they will be properly spaced without having to mess around with
paragraph attributes.)
Or
You could create a letterhead template that provides the styles to give the
appearance you want - see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/Letterhead.htm
