How do I get rid of the "/" that appears when I hit enter?

Every time I hit "enter," a "/" appears. I've tried
tools>customize>commands>keyboard, but "reset all" is not available. This
happens in Word and when I send e-mail.

The "/" is not a non-printing character. It prints on the page.
/
/See, this is what happens when I hit "enter" & do not delete or backspace it.
