How do I get rid of automatic updates?

I get automatic updates but I want to stop them. I have to keep restarting my
computer for these updates and I feel I am filling up my files with stuff I
don't need them. How do I stop receiving them? I use Office 2000.

Office and WIndows XP updates are generally very important as many
times they fix security holes or stability issues. Yes, they will
take some room on your hard drive but these days that's a pretty minor
issue.

I have installed all MS updates for my Windows and Office and will
continue to do so.
