How do I get OUT from a firewall?

L

Lydokane

I am trying to connect to my home computer from work. When I attempt
to connect through tsweb service (http://Public IP:IIS Port #/tsweb) I
can get the remote login window to come up but I can't actually get
into the host computer. I get the following error:

-quote- The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote
connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to
accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are
preventing your connection. Please try connecting again later. If the
problem continues to occur, contact your administrator. -end quote-

I am able to get in from other non-work computers (i.e. from a friend's
house and from my sister's house) but when I try from work I can't
connect. I suspect that the company firewall is blocking
incoming/outgoing traffic to port 3389. I changed this port on the
host computer through the registry to 4xxx. I also added the port in
the windows firewall as well as adding the port to my router.

Now, nobody can connect to me. I guess my first question is, what is
the syntax that one should enter in the web browser to connect? In the
past I only included the IIS port number. Do I just use the newly
changed RDC port number? Does the client computer also have to have
the registry edited? Is there even a way to get out past my corporate
firewall?

I know that there are other software options aside from M$ Remote
Desktop but I don't want to use other software.

Thanks,

-Lydokane-

Ask your systems admin. They probably block almost all ports at their
gateway.

PMG Connect (www.pmgconnect.com) will help you out. You can connect
out through a proxy server using remote desktop. You will have to set
up your home PC as what they call a standalone target (no cost). Once
set up it works perfectly.
