How do i get footnotes to be placed at teh end of section separators?

I am merging several chapter files with extensive footnotes already in them into a master file and want the footnotes to be placed at the end of the chapter sections (which I created by inserting a section break). But while i change the footnote option to place at the end of the section, the existing footnotes from all the chapters are still all placed at the very end of the document. Is there any way to have these existing footnotes get placed at the end of the sections instead? THanks.

Those are endnotes. Footnotes by definition are at the foot of the page.

If you made the "end of section" change in the master file, the inserted
files will still hold the "end of document" setting from their original
file. Resetting it once they are all inserted should work fine.
