How do I get back the gray space on the ruler in Word?

In Word, the gray area on the left side of the paper, the vertical ruler, has
disappeared so that i write all the way on the top of the page. Does anyone
know how to change that?

Definitely hover your cursor at the top of the page until you see the
double-headed arrows and then click to show the white space. That should
resolve your problem.
