how do i get autoarchive to work for my calendar

i have outlook 2003 connected to an Exchange server. i'm trying to get
Outlook to archive my calendar for items older than 24 months. i've tried
everything to get autoarchive to kick-in and remove items from my calendar
older than 24 months but they are still there:
1. click tools/options/other/autoarchive/"apply these settings to all
folders now"
2. rt. click on Calendar then click properties/autoarchive/"archive this
folder using these settings". i set "clean out items older than" to 24
months, then click apply, then OK
3. click file/archive/archive this folder and all
subfolders/calendar/archive items older than Fri 11-28-2003/OK

nothing seems to happen. any ideas?

Calendar items will not archive until they are in the past and their modified
date (not the due date, start date, created date, etc.) meets the archive
criteria. For recurring appointments, ALL of the occurrences must meet the
criteria again.
