my laptop is running very slow and my sytem event viewer is filled with these
two errors.

1 - DCOM got error "the dependency service or group failed to start"
attempting to start the service upnphost with arguments :in order to run the
server.

2 - The iniversal plug and play device host service depends on the SSDP
discovery service service which failed to start vecause of the following
error.
the service cannot be started either because it is disabled or because it
has no enabled devices associated with it.

Hi Steve,
Try this:
Open a run command and type in:
services.msc click [OK]
On the services control panel make sure these services started Automatically:
SSDP Start Auto
UPnPHost Strat Auto
Close the services and Reboot your machine does it solve your Issue.

To Enable the service UPnPHost on Windows XP, open a run command and type in:
regedit.exe click [OK]
Locate this Key:
System Key: [-]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\upnphost
=
"Value Name: Start" Data Type: REG_DWORD Value Data: 3.

Note: That UPnpHost service depends on SSDP Discovery Service. Make sure
that the SSDP Discovery Service is start first.

Enter your BIOS setup, and take a look at your PCI settings. You may find
some indication there of some hardware failure. If the discovery service is
not starting, I would guess something in the PCI was failing. Laptops are
notoriously fragile.
