I've been having problems w/system performance being extremely slow.
Diskeeper Lite came with my computer and now that won't run. I tried
to reinstall with the CD that came with it, but that doesn't help.
Scan disk won't run after a shut-down. I ran chkdsk which was
suggested on an error message, but that is read only and says I have
lots of errors. How do I get it to use the fix parameter, and will
this even help??-

Click My Computer from the Start Menu, right click on your hard driv
that
has the errors, click Properties, click Tools, click "Check Now" unde
error
checking, click the options to automatically fix files and scan fo
bad
sectors, and click OK. You will probably be told that your hard driv
is
locked and that it can perform these functions on the next reboot.
Click OK,
then reboot. Chkdsk will run as part of the bootup. It may tak
awhile,
depending on the size of your hard drive (expect an hour or more if yo
have
a huge hard drive).

When the process completes and your computer finishes booting up
repeat
this process, except this time don't press the automatically fix an
scan for
bad sectors options. If the errors are gone, you're done. If they ar
not
gone (you'll know because either the program will report remainin
errors or
will say it is unable to continue), repeat the above process again. I
the
errors still don't go away, the problem may be either a hard driv
going bad
(nothing you can do about it except to repair or replace the HD itself
or a
corrupt file system necessitating a reformat and clean install of XP.

Well, I tried this and received an error message stating the disk coul
not be checked while Windows was using files with the option to start o
reboot. I did this. During reboot scan disk started, did 1%, shut dow
and Windows restarted. THEN my C: prompt started and was runnin
jrtzle.exe or something and started beeping like crazy. I had to shu
down to make it stop. What is that? Sounds like maybe a trip to th
computer doctor, huh?
Thanks

Unfortunately, you are probably right. I have no idea what this file is or
does (and Google revealed nothing), but what you describe is either a hard
drive going bad or some really nasty crudware that has taken over your HD.
Once you shut down your computer, could you at least start it up again, or
does the same thing happen again?
