How do I fix a document so it doesn't change?

If designing a document on my desk top at work which has images and words,
whenI open this saved document on another users desk top it appears
differently as is not "fixed" Is there anything I can do to save it as I
would like and then open it elsewhere where it will look the same?

the only way to ensure such consistency is to output to PDF format for which
you will need additional software.
