I am using word and I saved a document without using Save As so I lost my
original. Can I get it back? I do not think I have it set to make back-up
files, but I might if it is default. Thank you

Bad news.... The "always create backup copy" option is not turned on by
default. If it had been turned on, you would see a file in the same folder
and named something like "Backup of <your file name>.wbk".

Do you perhaps have a printed copy of the original that you could scan?

See http://www.gmayor.com/automatically_backup.htm for a discussion and a
macro that improves on the automatic backup.
