How do I find a consultant?

I have been programming a database that draws information from Banner
(Oracle) and adds tables of information that we need in my department (but is
not stored in Banner currently). This database takes the place of an old
Access Database that was used for Payroll for instruction, Excel Spreadsheets
that were used for planning and finding information in Banner.

We found that we were entering information into 3 places, increasing the
odds for errors. I've done the connections to Banner and queries are
running, but they are extremely slow. I also do not have the expertise with
Access to know how to speed things up or to make the program easier to use.
We have about 20 users currently, but if this app works well, all of
Continuing Education may end up using it (about 60 people).

I have permission to hire a consultant to assist me with the project, but I
have no idea how to find one. How do I find a consultant?

You might be flooded with responses to such a question but my opinion is
word of mouth and search engines are the two main ways people find
consultants. I only show Yahoo because my site ranks a bit higher on that
one.

In addition to web searches, you may also want to look at some of the
frequent responders here in the Access newsgroups. Many, though not all by
any means, are consultants.
