No need to use a DOS boot diskette. The drive-C can be deleted and
recreated/reformatted during Win98's setup. The options are listed there on
the screen early in the setup when the status of the HDD is displayed.

I have a computer running windows xp professional. I do
not have disks for this operating system. I want to
completely erase the c drive and install windows 98. can
anyone help, please?

Robert don't disturb the troll, you know he is stupid, he doesn't
even know how to format a drive. He ought to go back to 3.1! :-(

Boot the Win98 Start up floppy. Run its FDISK (saying Y to 'Large disk
support?'). Use it to delete the current partition where XP is, a
'Non-DOS' one if NTFS, and make a new DOS Primary one. Reboot (with CD
Support), FORMAT C: and then go to the Win98 CD and run SETUP
