How do I ensure Drive C: on clean install

Bought a new hard drive since old one failed. Did not have another hd
connected to the computer when I formated drive and then installed Win XP
home edition. New drive is G: and the cd drives are E: and F:.

Although not causing a problem at the moment, some software/drivers "insist"
that the master drive be in drive C: If I reinstall Windows XP, is there
some way to ensure it starts its new life as drive C: ??

you can out it whereever you want

its your computer, dont let the software companies tell
you how to use it

Rubbish. Some badly written programs really do depend on the primary drive
being C:

Agreed. Just had similar situation myself with Canon drivers (and not for
the first time). About time Canon learnt how to write drivers. I have not
yet found a solution to the root problem though

Do you have a ZIP drive? If yes, you should phsically disconnect it before
installing XP. After XP install has completed then install the ZIP drive.
For some reason this causes this problem.

I don't have a zip drive. I had two cd drives running and the hard drive
when I installed Win XP from a cd. Had formatted the hard drive, a Western
Digital drive, from a cd that WD supplied for that purpose. Was it a quirk
to have the master wind up as G: drive?

You should let the WinXP CD format the drive during setup. Dump the Western
Digital software. The problem probably stemmed from there somehow.

Boot from the Windows XP installation CD.
When it gets to the screen showing the drive and its partition(s),
note the drive letter that is assigned to the partition (primary
partition on the first drive) you want XP installed to.
If it is C:, select it to install to. Choose to reformat the
partition.
If it is not C:, do not proceed. Figure out why it is not C:. It may
be as simple as restarting the installation program.
