How do I edit an existing locked powerpoint document?

I am trying to edit an existing powerpoint document that has been locked. I
need to know how to unlock the document. Can somebody please help me with

"Locked" can mean a lot of different things. How was this file protected?

I am not sure. I am trying to find the answer for someone else so I do not
