How do I drop shading, etc. in Word generated Page # ?

I can't remove the medium gray color under my Page " # " and the " # " of
pages.

I have set " no fill " for the background, and for tthe shading, and for the
highlighting. But the medium gray under color the page and # of pages remains.

How do I get rid of the medium gray color under the Word generated Page "
# " and the " # " of pages ?

Hi Dan,

These are called fields. If you go to Tools|Options and choose the View tab
there is a drop down box under "Field Shading", choose one of these options -
Always, Never or When Selected.

Choosing Never should make the shading go away. Note: The shading should
not print, it is there to show where the fields are in a document - these are
areas that Word keeps track of for you. Other examples are caption numbers
and dates.

Hope it helps.
