How do I delete mail?

Every time I press delete on the mail, it just draws a line through the mail,
and I can undelete it really easily. I don't mind the ability to undelete
email, but I do mind having deleted email in my inbox. It's very annoying
when I haven't checked my email lately and have 200 emails that I hit delete
for and then have to sort through them still to find the ones that I do want.

Customize -> Add/Remove Buttons -> Purge Deleted Messages

After you delete them (strike through with a line), you have to click that
button. It is the way IMAP works.
