How do I delete a large email from my outbox?

Due to an error of judgement when I was pretty busy, I tried sending a large
(26mb) email to another person in my office. I have been trying to delete
this message (as it has been sitting in my outbox for over a week now) and
when I try to delete this message a pop-up window says "this message is
already being transmitted" and won't delete.

When I press send and recieve this error message pops up "Error (0x8004210B)
this operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP)
server."

I have checked the help -there was nothing in help that could help me with
this problem -large message problems seemed to only address large incoming
messages.

Can anyone help me out in plain English?

Cheers,
Marney :)

Now there is a new error message:

Error 0x800CCC6D -The server responded. 552 Failure Message exceeded limit
37709k/20971k.

I know it exceeds the limit -I just want to delete it!!!!! Help please???

You'd think that Outlook would have a warning message if the message & its
attachments is oversized and won't be sent.

I just called up the support line -after seeing that requests for getting
help with this problem haven't really been answered and they referred me to
this site http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287070
-which looks pretty complicated when they could of put a warning message up
which would of made me think twice before I hit send.

I found the answer! Do the following:

Go to File (in Outlook), click on Offline. Wait a few minutes, reopen
Outlook. If it asks for your password, just click on the x to close it (you
don't want to be online). Go to File again to make sure you are still working
Offline, then click on the message in teh Outbox you want to get rifd of, go
to the top and delete it like any other message. If not, disable automatic
send and receive for the account and close outlook and reopen.

Greg I followed your instructions to the letter and my 258 MB e-mail is still
stuck in my outbox. Is this a bug in Outlook?

probably not a bug...just try the deleting process as outlined and this
should take care of it...
it didn't work the first time I tried but did it several times and finally
it left the outbox and I learned a very good lesson........Less is more!!!!!

Yes it did finally allow me to delete it several hours later. Are we butting
up against a limitation of Outlook, or the internet e-mail system (MSN in my
case) that it supports? My attachment was 258MB. If there is a ceiling I'd
like to know what it is?

I have no idea and no one "here" seems to have addressed that specific
question..........
I just know that when I send my e-mail photos I now down size them and just
send more of the e-mails....cumbersome but all I know to do.

Email limits are set by your ISP or mail admin, depending on if you are at
home or at work. Outlook has nothing to do with it. The number of names in
a distribution list is also controlled by these same entities.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, jtc asked:

You probably already have this resolved judging by the date. However, I had
the same problem. This was very stubborn and took several attempts. Go
offline, exit outlook, restart it, try to delete. Do a detect and repair
under HELP. Repeat. Also, I noticed the task manager reported outlook.exe
sucking all the processor time even after an exit. End task that. Good Luck
