I've been having problems with my computer latley i left
for a week and my lil cousin got his hands on it i came
back and all of a sudden i get major error messages saying
missing kernel32.dll and some other small files also
troubleshooting won't start up and accesibility won't
operate i was thinking reinstalling windows xp might fix
this but then remembered i lent my xp disc out to a friend
when he left for college anyway i'll see him next month was
wondering anyway i could reinstall without CD like say
mabey create a boot up disc like back in the 95/98 days or
would i need the CD

Hi,

You need the CD. A boot floppy will not be sufficient unless you copied the
CD to hard drive and are using FAT32 rather than NTFS for the file system.
Then you need to do a repair installation. Follow these steps to do a repair
install which should preserve your data, settings, and programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it
handy before you begin.

Just curious about your "lent my xp disc out to a friend..." That Windows
XP CD is only licensed for use on one system. If you did Product Activation
within 30 days of the first use, what could your friend need it for?
