Creating boot cd for Windows XP

S

Steve Paddock

Can someone please explain (in easy steps!) how to create a boot cd in
Windows xp sp2. I have a bios upgrade that needs applying via a boot disc,
and as I don't have a floppy disc drive, I have been told that I should be
able to achieve the same result from a boot cd.
Many thanks,
Steve

Your Windows XP CD is bootable.
However - that is not the answer you really need in this case.

Something there should help you out. Maybe an ISO to burn or something.
You could burn a CD, make it bootable with some Windows 9x diskette image
file you grab and add your other files to it.

An external floppy drive is not expensive.

And an internal one is even cheaper, and easy to install.

Personally, I would not choose to have a system with a diskette drive. You
don't need them often but when you do, they are very convenient to have. And
they only cost $10 US or so.

Thanks for the info and link. It's a great site with loads of utilities, but
unfortunately,as far as I can see.there is nothing to simply create a boot
cd. There are loads of options for boot cd's with utilities to "wipe" disc
etc. I presume that I should be able to create a bootable floppy on a PC at
work (that has a floppy drive) and copy the files from there onto a cd, and
then copy the bios upgrade on. Anyway, I am going to give it a go and see
what happens - nothing ventured etc.

I use Magic ISO. I used it for creating Multi-Boot CD (Boot-It, Image For Windows,
Recovery Console). It is easy to use & you can do lots of things with it. You can
create Bootable CD with it.

- MagicIso v5 ; Review and Download

Info :
MagicISO is a powerful CD/DVD image file editor, CD burner, and CD/DVD backup
tool. It can directly create, edit, extract and burner ISO files, Convert almost
all CD/DVD image formats to ISO/BIN/CUE. With MagicISO, you can handle DVD image
up to 10GB; Make bootable CDs; Make cd image files from CD/DVD-ROM; also can burn
ISO files and another CD/DVD image files (BIN, IMG, CIF,NRG,BWI,VCD and so on) to
CD-R/RW. Searching files in CD/DVD image file.

What do u want to boot to? BartPE or WPE or DOS. I
think u mean DOS. Be aware there r other options.

Pardon my French but I dont know whether 'to shit or go
blind' :) re boot cds.

Just my 2¢ worth. Larry

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

Steve:
In addition to Shenan's suggestion, are you certain that a BIOS upgrade for
your motherboard can be undertaken *only* with a bootable floppy disk
containing the BIOS upgrade file(s)? Many, if not most motherboards produced
over the past few years optionally provide for a BIOS upgrade install
directly through the internet or alternatively downloading the BIOS upgrade
file and installing it through the BIOS firmware. So that in either case
there's no need for the bootable floppy disk or bootable CD process. If you
haven't done so already, you might want to check this out with your
motherboard's manufacturer.

Thanks for all the help, tips and advice. I eventually solved the problem by
installing a floppy drive temporarily and flashing the bios from there.
Thanks, again,
Steve

You're welcome. Yes that certainly was the easiest way.

WONDERFUL reply. Or something.

You related to Carey??

Pick your fights elsewhere, obtuse sycophant.

I gave the op what they asked for and was thanked; although it did not - in
the end - help them remedy their situation.
In the end they chose to simply temporarily use a floppy diskette (internal)
drive. This worked for them and anything else may have been overly
complicated - especially given the circumstances they were in.

This is more than you contributed to this thread and more than you will get
out of it.
