I have office pro 2003. I have a pop3 account account with multiple alias
e-mail accounts. I want to be able to continuously download mail from my pop3
account to a local mail server and then have the various profiles only
download the mail that is relevant to them. Do I have what is required to
create a mail server or do I need exchange server 5.5 for example?

You don't need Exchange server unless you also want to share calendars.
Otherwise there are free mail servers that will do the job.
Here's one:

There are some free POP servers available on the Internet, but I don't think
they'll do what you want because they'd need to act as a POP client as well
in order to download your messages. Why not simply use rules to sort your
incoming mail?
