How do I copy/dup. an existing business contact record in Business

I'm trying to find out how I can duplicate an existing business contact
record. When trying to copy the record and then pasting it, I received a
message that says cannot support this operation. Is there anyway to
copy/duplicate an existing business record account into a new one? Reason I
am needing to do this is that I have multiple business contacts that need to
be created for a particular business and I don't want to have to create a
"new" business contact record each time and have to re-enter all of their
company info. again.

Anyone out there on this one? I too need to know how to do this. Surely MS
foresaw this need? Please tell us yes!

Well, it's a little screwy but copy the BCM contact into Outlook contacts,
then copy it back into BCM. Doing it that way makes BCM think it's not a
duplicate and it will allow it.

Thanks Lon - big surprise that it would require a screwy fix - pretty much
par for the course from what I've experienced during my several months trying
to learn how to use this product. Frankly, I wish I'd never read your article
to switch from ACT! - But I guess it's easy to forget how bad ACT! had
gotten! It's amazing with all the "intelligent" people who no doubt developed
and upgraded BCM that so many of the problems I read about on here could not
have been thought through BEFORE they released the 2007 edition. I mean after
all, they've had 4 years from the original relaease date to get this right.
What happened to focus groups and customer research?

wants to link the same contact to multiple accounts. Since that is not
possible in BCM 2007, he wants to copy the contacts over. Do I have

Chris,

I think DGS and I are asking, at least partially, for the same reason. We
want to duplicate a contact with much of the same information as an existing
contact except maybe the name or some other fields. With a duplicate feature
we can have almost all the new information entered without having to retype
it and then can change the fields that we want to change.

Well, it's a little screwy but copy the BCM contact into Outlook
contacts,
then copy it back into BCM. Doing it that way makes BCM think it's
not a
duplicate and it will allow it.

OK, I hear you. You're asking for a "clone" function, where you copy a
record, changing only that field that should be unique (say, full name
for a Business Contact) and other fields that you want to change.

OK, got it. Will definitely consider for future release.

In the meantime, the more info we get from you guys (our customers,
after all) the better. How frequently you would want to use this?
Business Contacts, yes. Also Opportunities, I imagine. Clone
Accounts, too? And when you do clone, would you want to always change
the same fields (say, name and job title), or different fields each
time you clone?

You got it Chris - at least from my perspective. I don't use this function
all that often but when I need it, I NEED IT! It's silly to have to duplicate
work that essentially already exists! That is one of the beauties of
computing! Wen I do clone, it would primarily be the same fields, but you
need to flexibility to change all if needed! Don't shortcut this!

I only use for Business Contacts because I've not yet figured out how to
work with Accounts or Opportunities!

According to the help file...

however when I follow the steps I get the following error message.

folders you are trying to change do not support this operation. Could not
complete the operation because the service provider does not support it"

Is this a know bug, and is it being addressed?

Thank goodness it's not just me, I followed the tutorial, did the ctrl+c
ctrl+v and got the same message '

Incredible that this simple task, WITH A TUTORIAL, so I guess it is supposed
to work, doesn't.
