how do I convert document from open office to word

I have a document that was created in OpenOffice.org 1.1.1, and when I try to
open it in Micro. Word it comes up as symbols,

Did you remember to save as a Word document in OpenOffice before opening the

Hi Robyn,

Until Word 2007 Service Pack 2 comes out, Microsoft won't have any built in converter for Open Office files.

You can save it from Open Office (if available) as a Word document or you can install the OpenXML/ODF converter/translator Add-in
