how do I compress photos?

I use FrontPage 2003. My website was recently redone by a professional, and
then turned over to me, to maintain from now on. She told me that my images
were huge, and each one had to be compressed as she was redoing my site. (I
had thought that using "resample" was taking care of this. I was wrong.) So
now, I need to find a way to compress photos from now on, so I can continue
to maintain my website and occasionally replace a photo here and there, or
add a complete new page.

Searching FP2003 help for "compress images" returns no results. I don't
know where else to look. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Dear Tom, Thank you! I will Google Irfanview. I've never heard of that software.

Have you heard of JPegWizard? They used to have a webpage on their site
where you could compress a photo for free. You would select a photo from
your own hard drive, and click "compress", and the result would be several
different versions of the compressed photo. You could choose one or more and
save them. That handy little page is now gone. I have downloaded
JPegWizard's demo version but need to plow through the help instructions
before I can use it. I just have no time for this right now.

IrFanview is free and extremely versatile.
Optimize is a better word to use (imo).

Dear Rob,

Uh ... OK. Thanks. I guess you can tell that I'm new to this. Actually,
it was a surprise when I learned that none of my photos on my website were
small enough. Some of them were quite huge. They were like that for years.
In my browser, they looked just fine.

I am learning how to use IrFanview and have asked for help in their forum
this morning.

IrFanview is pretty simple.
What Image editing program are you using?
While IrFanview is an incredible program, it (imo) is not a full fledged
image editor.
