how do i change the default time for checking for new incoming m.

I have just upgraded to microsoft outlook. I have set it to notify me with
sound and an envelope icon when a new message arrives, but the only way i can
see if a new message has arrived is to click on send/receive, (even if i
close outlook and open it again it isn't showing new messages) is this
because the default time for checking for new emails is high? if so how do i
change it

IF you have outlook 2003 then click on Tools > Options, mail setup tab, check
to see if the "send immediately when connected" is checked, then click on the
Send/Receive button and you can change the automatic send/receive time there
if desired.
